Zones and Blocks

Zones divide the coastline into management areas.

Each zone has a set amount of abalone that can be caught. There are five zones:

The zone structure helps support the management of Tasmania’s abalone resource across different parts of the coastline.

Blocks are smaller areas within each zone.

They are used to calculate the sustainability of the resource. Each block has a predetermined catch amount. Once that amount is reached, the block is closed.
