The change reflected the development of an industry involving three key stakeholder groups:

Research is supported through collaboration with organisations including IMAS, NRE Tasmania, FRDC and Abalone Council Australia.

Following the formation of TACL, premises were leased in Hunter Street and the Council established its first formal office facility in conjunction with Fruit Growers Tasmania. Sally Tennant was appointed as the first TACL Office Manager.

In the years since, TACL has either initiated or been closely involved with major industry reforms in its role as a representative body acting in the interests of its members.

Any person who has rendered distinguished service to the Council may be admitted as a Life Member of the Council at the invitation of the Executive.
